Oscar De La Renta Looks for My Fave African Celebs

oscar de la renta
Few days ago, Oscar de la Renta an award-winning designer, succumbed to cancer and died at 82 years having passionately served the fashion industry for over five decades dressing and styling US First Ladies like Jacqueline Kennedy and Hilary Clinton. In a video tribute, designer Diane von Furstenberg notes de la Renta as one who “…makes a woman look like a woman, feel like a woman. He has that old-fashioned elegance, and yet he’s able to interpret it in such a modern way.”
I could not agree any less to von Furstenberg’s tribute on the legendary Dominican-born fashion designer. Not a few celebrities have worn his pieces. And he endeavoured to bring out the sheer femininity mixed with timeless elegance in these stars.

As a stylist, I thought how I would style two of my favourite African celebrities in an Oscar de la Renta ensemble. Charlize Theron (South Africa) and Omotola “Omosexy” Ekeinde (Nigeria) are ladies who have upped the ante in the area of style. I love the way both ladies rock their respective red carpet pieces. While Ms. Theron effortlessly sustains her timeless glam, Ms. Ekeinde could improve and she is improving by the day. Below are looks I created for both celebrated ladies in the movie industry.

Like I note earlier, Charlize Theron exudes timeless glamour on the red carpet. Talk of old-fashioned glamour, you’d get in Ms. Theron, who usually flaunt her lithe, well-toned arms, shoulders and legs on the red carpet. So, this black plunging neckline velvet gown works for me if I were styling Ms. Theron. There is a play of gold accessories to bring her charms brightly.
  1. Black wrap-effect velvet halterneck gown by Oscar de la Renta
  2. Gold drop earrings
  3. Luxe cuff
  4. “Gucci Guilty Intense”, 50ml EDP by GUCCI
  5. Perspex clutch by Juicy Couture
  6. Dr. Hauschka eyeshadow palette
  7. Red lipstick by Chanel
  8. Carvela gold sequin sandals

It is trite fact that this renowned Nigerian actress love rocking African print pieces. I am happy the late Mr. de la Renta created this ensemble using “ankara” fabric. So in my humble opinion, I think “Omosexy” would glad rock this dress and this is how I’d style her.
  1. Printed cotton-blend poplin dress by Oscar de la Renta
  2. Diamond stud earrings
  3. Long-wear gel eyeliner by Bobbi Brown
  4. “Crystal Noir”, 90ml EDT by VERSACE
  5. Red ostrich skin knuckle clutch
  6. Element eyeshadow palette
  7. Nude lipstick by M.A.C Cosmetics
  8. Maroon goldtone bar ankle strap sandals by Topshop

If you ask me, I’d say Mr. Oscar de la Renta lived a fulfilled life. His legacy would definitely live on. Hence, they’d never be another Oscar de la Renta in a 1000 years to come! Requiescat in pace, Mr. de la Renta.
